2018 Principessa is a dry white wine made from Fiano grapes sourced from the Pascoe Rural Co vineyard near Boyup Brook. Fiano originated in the Campania region of Southern Italy in ancient times and has made revival in popularity there in recent decades. Our version has subtle fruit flavours finishing with the variety’s characteristic tart finish.
2017 VVC Sangiovese
2017 VVC is a very light dry red wine made from the classic Tuscan grape variety Sangiovese. This wine is very fragrant and with a matching flavour that is reminiscent of sour cherries which is typical of this grape variety. This wine’s full name: Veni Vidi Concreto is a very loose translation of I came, I saw, I concreted – not quite the famous words of Julius Caesar but a somewhat light hearted homage to Italian immigrants to Australia. This is the first vintage from vines specifically grafted to this variety by the Pascoe Rural Co at Boyup Brook.
2009 Nome Qui
2009 Nome Qui is a full bodied dry red made from Merlot grapes sourced from the last vintage of the Winfield vineyard formally in Pemberton. If you have ever wondered why people age wines this wine may provide the answer. Ten years old already, this wine has developed the complexity of flavours expected of it whilst still having some potential to age gracefully for a few more years.
2017 Minore is a full bodied dry red made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes sourced from the Blackwood Crest vineyard near Boyup Brook. Aged in used French oak barrels for one year prior to bottling, this wine has retained Blackberry fruit flavours characteristic of this grape variety. Drinking well now but will also age well for many years.
We refer to La Fina as a Muscat, but it is technically not a Muscat but a blended wine made of predominantly Muscat grapes with some Verdelho based wine added. It is also non-vintage with the Muscat and Verdelho picked in different years. This wine is sweet and luscious with raisin flavours characteristic of ripe Muscat grapes and a nutty flavour provided by the Verdelho component. Extreme patience was displayed making this wine: the Muscat portion aged for 7 years in barrel being somewhat junior to the Verdelho that was aged in barrel for 10 years. Currently not labelled and priced accordingly – expect the price to increase significantly once those labels go on!
Fante Di Spade
Fante di Spade is a sweet port-style wine made from Shiraz grapes sourced from Michael and Margot Salmon’s Summer Springs vineyard in the Perth Hills. This wine was kept out of barrels in order to preserve the delicious fruit flavours of the very ripe grapes that resembled raisins at the time of harvest. Fortified by the addition of brandy spirit to stabilise the wine and provide some complexity with a hint of wood flavour.
